what will you advice to the incoming high school students in studying(algebra)for them to succeed?

i never had to study for math but for the subjects i needed to study on my trick was to not take it too sereously. your brain is only going to take so much in. dont get me wrong studying is important. just dont beat yourself up. also, i know it sounds tacky but make up rhymes and sayings, it's what got me through remembering all the little rules in chemistry.

it has been proven that music classes help the average student succeed in mathematics-based classes, so i would suggest band, for starters, or possibly choir. also, real-life situations involving algebraic problems (like word problems) provide good practice in a way which applies to the pupil's everyday life. For instance, high school students usually have just started to learn how to manage their own money. There are a few equations in algebra which may have a bearing on how one's personal cash is managed, and so if the pupil can apply this to his or her own finances, he or she may have a deeper appreciation for algebra and other math-based studies. hope that helps.
