i think that is x + x^2 = 3X and i get to x^2 = 2x and get stuck...if thats even the way to do it. If you figure it out, please show the steps. Thanks and first correct answer gets 10pts and pride :)

You're doing fine. But think: if x squared (which is x times x) is the same as 2x (which is 2 times x), then x must be 2. And, sure enough: 2 plus 4 (which is 2 squared) equals 6, which is 3 times 2.

well, the number is 3, the square is 9.

you are right... from x^2=2x, we can say that since x is not equal to zero (as the question says its a positive no,), we can cancel off x on each side of the equation to get x=2.

2 + 4 = 6= 3x2
