use a psychological method of behavioural therapy called classical conditioning.
What you need to do is be with them just like you normally would and be active in conversation etc with them when they show the side of their character that you like or is less 't*sserish'. when they display behaviour that you dont like or find offensive you can do 1 of 2 things:
>>1. ignore it, this will deprive them of the attention which they may be seeking
>> walk away, this is worse than no attention as it actually shows them that they are deterring others, rather than attracting them.
Dont argue or fight back as this will just give them more attention and more of a reason to be, as you put it, "a two faced t*sser"

Feel free to be the proper gentleman, ask the host to resolve the issues, ignore the rude, or walk away. I personally have not
rendered a petty annoyance unconsciousness since 2001.

Hi! I know some two faced people and I also know that I'm not the only one who has noticed this...I was told by friend about something another 'close' friend had said about me (and I can believe it, because I've witnessed this same friend say things about other people and be 'nice' to their faces!) anyway this 'close' friend has been nothing but nice to me, but I can see through her, and I know what she has said about me. I am civil to her, as I don't like confrontation, but I'm also very wary of her. She'll slip up soon, and I want to be there to see it!!!!
So my advice is, don't confront this person, that's what they want, but just keep your distance, dont tell that person ANYTHING about anyone, and their time will come!!!
