I wouldn't hose the hot metal directly after mowing because the metal can warp, Some of the newer models of lawn mowers suggest that you do that, i.,e., hose down under the mower, but, that just don't make sense when it's pretty common knowlege that the metal will warp and weaken.
I usually use a blower to blow all the clippings off the mower and away from the motor housing.
I still get under the deck and scrap off the mess though,.too!

Wait until the mower has cooled down before you hose it off. In fact, once it's completely cool you may just be able to sweep off the grass clippings and dried dirt and not have to use a hose at all.

Let it cool because metal cracks when hot and hosed down. It makes a nice sound though.

Let it cool, because you don't want to warp the blad that gets warm. The hose water is cold. Then the blade doesn't cut as well. It's really not all that big of deal though.

It would be better to let it cool first.

Metal, when it's cooled rapidly, can crack. This is called shock-cooling. When you spray cold water onto your still hot mower, you run the risk of doing this.
