Yes, when windows becomes too nosy and difficult to use on an average system. I have a feeling that Vista is the beginning of the end for the Windows system. people will get fed-up of Microsoft if they start choosing what software can run and what can't or otherwise meddling with your installed software.

Not anytime soon. That is a you never know question. Linux is making some noise but the reason computing is what it is today is because of Microsoft and its practices (most are bad but hey it is what it is). I also think that Linux is a far superior system because of its versatility and stability. Windows is pretty much a desktop user system.
Linux can be used for anything electrical.

If you have never tried Novell suse linux then download it and you will see why....
a lot of governments have moved over to Suse Linux including Germany, Francs and some usa departments, China has ordered 145,000 suse linux computer systems for it's schools
so all these users will put linux on their home computers, cause it is free. all the software is free and better
Linux is more stable and secure,
The tell tail sign was last November when Microsoft joined forces with Novell,

It will take some time as most people are not aware of the free operating systems and software that is available from the open source community. If you have not tried one of the free OS', get UBUNTU or XUBUNTU you can dual boot them with any other OS.
