they do warn you if you smoke not to take the pill. I took it for 14 years and never had a problem though and I smoked. The pill doesn't agree with some women regardless if you smoke or not. The pill also speeds up your metabolism and one of the common side effects of taking it is weight loss

The losing weight is not the big issue here, but the smoking is a giant red flag, and you need to call the doctor who prescribed those pill right now.

Oral contraceptives have a small risk of causing blood clots, but this risk is very greatly increased in smokers. Many doctors will not even prescrible the pill to a smoker and almost none will for a woman over 35 who smokes.

Shortness of breath can have many causes, but one of them is pulmonary emboli, which is the medical term for blood clots in the lung. This is a condition that can be rapidly fatal, and clots can also travel to other parts of the body and cause heart attack, stroke, and blockages to organs and limbs. You should have been told that shortness of breath needs to be evaluated quickly for a smoker on the pills, as should any other sign of possible blot clots anywhere.

Call your doctor at once. Your life may depend on it.

Contraceptive pills do gain weight, but it depends, I know several of my friends, who are taking contraceptive pills and they never gained weight, my wife's sister, she says she gains weight so quickly when contraceptive pills are taken. As far as i see, it depends on person to person, Most woman gain weight, some don't. Since you mentioned that you are a smoker, smoking is a big hit on loosing weight factor as far as i know so it could effect on loosing weight. But after reading your information, and symptoms , i would suggest you immediately see a doctor. i hope this helps,

On the issue of taking the birth control pill and causing a person to lose weight that can sometimes occur in some women. I had it happen to me when I took the Yasmin for about 6 months in part of 2006. It was because of the way that my body dealt with the hormones in it.

As for the shortness of breath pls see your dr to have that evaluated.

I think losing weight can cause by taking contraceptive drugs because it causes hormonal activity in your body. and your shortness of breath is just because of smoking.
Anyway it worth to consult a doctor.

Contraceptive pills are pills that induce your body to believe it is already pregnant. it submits a bunch of hormones and it messes things up fairly good.. your body is burning more energy. And about shortness in breath... your a smoker.. you should expect no less... but it may not be actual shortness but.. more difficulty? hormones are powerful.. so just let your body adjust for a month or so to the new levels in your system.
