First off, I don't like that on the other hand thing. It's the same hand. We as a people are always so quick to differentiate and shift all blame and responsibility to this "Government" as though it was an independent entity. It's just people, American people that's what the government is, it's us. Anything the White House does, right or wrong is on all of us.

People love to poke out their chest with pride and take credit and speak as though they personally did something when America does something worthy of praise, but when it's the other way around suddenly it has nothing to do with the people. Hypocritical by nature.

Most American people are genuinely amiable and just good folk trying to live their lives and we do kind of care, in passing, about the rest of the world but we are as a people are very isolated and mostly ignorant of the rest of the world.

All the public generally has to go on is whatever they see on CNN or FOX NEWS and it is biased and often just plain stupid. Look at what's going on in the world right now, then compare that to what's been on the news lately. Days worth of coverage of Anna Nicole Smith's death.

To answer your question; yes I believe we are becoming a threat. The United States has essentially become an expansionist empire. We have an established military base in nearly every major country in the world and think nothing of using it if we see fit, even if the majority of the rest of the world disagrees with us. While we may not forcibly and officially make other countries a part of ours we do essentially make them into vassal states.

Of course all this is my take on the situation and I'm supposedly entitled to it. I'm sure there are many who would very strongly disagree. Some with real points to back their thoughts and others that just lash out in a jingoistic rage.

Becoming? Now _there's_ wishful thinking....

US foreign policy since its civil war has been "whatever is in our national interests". The US will do _anything_ that benefits itself, regardless of any detrimental effects its actions have on other countries -or- the US.

The US supported the Khmer Rouge, who caused the "killing fields".
The US supported Saddam Hussein, using him as a proxy to attack Iran.
The US supported Suharto and his brutal regime in Indonesia.
The US supported Apartheid under the pretense of "anticommunism".
The US supported Batista, Somoza, Pinochet, Noriega, Charles Taylor, and dozens of other dictators all because they were "pro-US" puppets.

The US supported and armed the Taliban when it opposed the Soviets, and those same Stinger missiles which shot down Soviet helicopters now shoot down US helicopters.

The US should be called the OroborUS because it always ends up biting its own butt.

Additional:

Like most yanks, "kveryeffective" hasn't got a clue what goes on outside the US borders or before 9/11.

The "muslims are on the warpath"? Gee, I wonder why. *Maybe* it has something to do with unflinching support of Israel's ethnic cleansing of the Palestinians, the US destruction of Iran's democracy leading to islamic fascism in the county, US support for brutal puppet regimes in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia and US terrorism against numerous islamic nations BEFORE 9/11.

Yes, America is becoming a world threat. They are going on developing newer weapons and giving no thought to disarmament. On the other hand, they are attacking other countries that make nuclear weapons, while possessing the most nuclear weapons themselves. I agree with what Putin said recently about America encouraging smaller countries to develop nuclear arms. With a power-hungry country like USA showing no signs of reducing its nuclear arms, other countries are bound to want to develop weapons for their own security! It is time US realized that they must set an example to the world by reducing their own weapons, rather than bombing up every country who tries to develop weapons. Nuclear weapons are no more safe in their hands than in the hands of any other country. They cannot achieve "world peace" by waging war.

You bet! Undoubtedly Yes. Americans are nice people, except when it comes to voting. They invariably put wrong person inside the white house - who not only make their own place dangerous but also make the whole world dangerous and pray why? just so that History remembers them. Hey Monika also has a place in history. But she was not dangerous to the world, at best only dangerous to Hillary.

Yes America is a threat to world peace but how else do you think a super power can maintain her supremacy?

yes I think the US is a threat to world peace, but it also works to create peace. It's sort of weird how our country works for a goal and against it at the same time.

As for your second question, I blame a lot of things for that. First, Fox news--so many people think it's balanced, but it's not, so they think they're getting news when they're getting propaganda and making what they think are unbiased decisions. Second, to be honest, I think we're kind of apathetic over here, and tend to not weed through the soundbites. So, if a candidate has a good pr team, people vote for them.

As an aside, I come from a blue state. . .never voted for this pres.
