I think the ages are fine as they are. For the likes of cigarettes and alcohol it doesn't make a lot of difference anyway - it's more an expression of the government's stance on these issues, rather than actual law. I mean, I've seen children of primary school age with cigarettes, and how many youngsters of recent years waited until they were 18 before they started drinking?

Driving needs to stay at 17. A lot of the older generation think it needs to be increased, but the sad fact is that we live in a nation where we can't manage without cars (due to the abysmal public transport) and driving is an important part of growing up and becoming independant. When I was 18 I left college and got a full-time job - if I couldn't drive I wouldn't have been able to work, simple as that.

Perhaps the age of consent for sex and marriage needs raising (if anyone can't see why these two have to be the same age, they need to think about this further) simply because I don't think 16 year olds can ever be mature enough to make a decision about these things. But it's true that everyone's different, and it's not like the government will ever stop kids having underage sex anyway.

The key to solving most of these problems is better education rather than age limits. People are still getting stupidly drunk, ruining their lungs, driving recklessly, spreading STIs and conceiving unwanted children all the time, and many of these are old enough to do so (and ought to know better!).

Age restrictions are there for a reason.
Honestly I don't think the majority of 16 yr olds are capable of maturely handling alcohol so it should be 18.

you can't buy cigarettes in ASDA now until your 18, I agree with this because they are more harmful than alcohol is in my opinion and a lot harder to give up once started.

Sex I think should be kept at 16.
Girls who have sex younger have a higher risk of cervical cancer but I don't think it should be raised to 18 because it would be impossile to proove who was having underage sex.

Also, teenagers can look alot older than they are, raising the age would mean men (and women) who assumed someone was 18 could have sex with them and find out they're 16.

If that happens today its not so bad because 16 is legal, if the age limit was raised then alot of people could easily get into trouble.

I think legal age of all consent should be 18. These age limits are getting confusing due to the fact that there are too many variations depending on where one lives. A 16 year old should not be having sex unless the person is married and prepared to be responsible for the care of offspring. 21 is often too long for parents to wait until teens can take responsibility for themselves because the children are encouraged to develop adult behaviors entirely too young.

Just because there is a legal minimum age does not mean that after that age it is compulsory. The age is set to correspond with the legal concept that the person is capable of giving informed consent. Lower than 16 you are considered to be too easily influenced to be able to make a decision by your own free will. Everybody develops at different rates so any age is wrong in individual cases but the line must be drawn somewhere to protect young people from pressure that they are not equiped to handle.

I think age is just a number personally, but.. laws are pretty much there to protect the general public from doing stupid things. Better off just making sure parents are teaching their kids the proper way to act. It doesn't matter what the age limit is really, some people will always do the wrong thing cause they weren't raised right or are just rebellious. We're better off just making the penalty more serious if they get caught.

It certainly isn't criminal for toddlers under sixteen to have intercourse-replace operations. If the two the mum and dad and the newborn agree on it (after a super sort of guy or woman and kinfolk treatment ... that's needed by skill of regulation), then they might initiate a regiment of hormone blockers, which slows puberty, and enables them time to % if that's what they extremely desire to do with something of their existence. whilst they hit sixteen, the kinfolk can look into concepts to start up Hormone replace treatment, to start up the puberty they have been meant to journey initially. surgical operation isn't an option till the age you're legally seen an person (interior the u . s .), at 18. The extra you comprehend ... *and shooting celeb*
