"He's a very brave young man, and he's a very determined young man who wants to be part of his regiment and part of the army," Blair said during a British Broadcasting Corp interview. "I think that shows a very special character on his part."

Others thought fighting in Iraq was an appropriate task for the prince.

"It's a bit dangerous for him ... but it's good," said Lee Wills, a 20-year-old from London. "The royal family's got to do its bit for their country."

Whether or not he is ever in harm's way, whether or not it's simply for show... it is a good show of patriotism. It speaks highly that he wants to fight for his country or that he knows he should anyway. It's an honorable gesture and if nothing else at least he is smart enough to know that standing behind his country's efforts will win him respect.

I know we have to keep our leaders safe but I also think that a true leader shows courage and leadership through sacrifice for what he believes in. If he is not willing to sacrifice himself for what he believes in how can he expect others to? Yes, I know George W. served in the military. But he can't expect to feed off that merit forever. It might have shown enough patriotism to win the presidency but it doesn't hold much weight in a war he's waged against his country's better judgment since 2001. This war, which has achieved little if any of it's objectives, had produced massive bloodshed, and which has fed international tyranny more than it has fostered democracy.

I say... hats off to Prince Harry who at least has the guts to put his feet where those of his countrymen walk. Whether it's too late, whether he's behind the frontlines... whether it's just media hype or not... at least he's verbally taken a stand to let the world know that he knows his place should be fighting alongside his countrymen. He has royal blood and still knows that he will be far greater respected for standing up for what he believes in than he ever would have as a ward of the throne.

This a major war costing a great deal of money and still at a greater loss, a great deal of bloodshed. If George W. believes so firmly in this cause that has seemed to be so fruitless, then let him bear arms and fight with our men. Let him renew our belief in him in that manner. Until then.... I say Harry is proving to be quite the man his Mother hoped he'd be.

Not sure if you saw that the BBC also mentioned that despite a Royal going to war, there is not a single relative of a member of the House of Commons serving in Iraq. Funny eh? I dont think he's brave, just doing what he wants to do and if that involves going to war then he seems to feel "so be it". Anyone joining the army is not brave by proxy, I thinks its their conduct once on duty that can distiguish such people. We'll wait and see with Harry.

I don't think anything of it -- I am so against the war and Harry is just one of the many poor unfortunates who are taking part in it imaging themselves to be patriotic heroes. "Ours is not to question why/Ours is but to do or die" I don't blame the poor blighters.

Exactly, we don't see any well known Americans volunteering to go, not even any senators will encourage their kids to go, but here is Britain allowing it's 2nd in line to the thrown to go over and fight.
