haha. this is a funny question.
actually....it's quite true. for most filipinos i know..."family" means aunts and uncles and cousins. they tend to be close and stick together.
the same with my family. (altho my family is filipino and chinese cuz i'm filichino! :D)....and i know if i marry i guy...i want him to be able to talk to my family and i wana stay close to my family.
my uncles that married my dad's sisters are always with the family too...so i'm guessing your statement has a lot of truth in it! :D

Hey, why should you call us Flips? We've never been called that way. Culture is important as you know. If families in your country don't care about the one you're gonna get married to, it's not like that here.

No, you don't marry the whole family but if you have an understanding of the filipino culture and the crisis going on in their country, you would be able reason why filipino's do things.
No one knows how you came into this world and if your situation is better than the average filipino, shame on you.
You are lucky that the sperm that travelled to fertilize the egg that made you happen to be in a fortunate situation.
Some people are not born in the best situation so stop talking down on people.
If you have kids, you better hope that they don't turn out to be in a unfortunate situation.

and to answer your question, it's not true. marry the family in the sense that filipinos are very close...it's nice when family sticks together...
and that is actually a good thing, at least filipinos dont just get divorce after 2 years...

NO, that is an odd & old fashioned question. The families are just kinda nosy about things but don't take it personally because many filipino families are like that. The best thing to do is to live a distance & let it be known that you have your own lives while keeping in touch. They should respect that. My family does.....I'm not sure about other families, every family has different attitudes but the ones you describe are old fashioned.

no not really. filipinos are family-oriented and close-knit all the time. family matters to us most so you see, we value our parents even our extended families (yaya,laundry woman,etc) unlike some nations who push their aging parents away from them and allow them to stay in a home for the aged. but that doesn't mean you'll be staying with the rest of the family when you two get married. you can have your own house, raise your kids,stay abroad if you want. you can always have your own space and time but from time to time, you'll have to be dealing with family matters- because they're your family.

To begin with, you are already wrong. You do not understand our culture. When we say our family extends up to 4th degree, we mean we acknowledge them as part of the family. Ours is a close knit-family but never mean financially responsible to them. Its social not material.
