I would think giving a good example is different than BEING a good example. Who do you want to impress? Being a good example is most important, it is a part of who and what you are! Giving ex appears to be phony, at least it sounds that way to me. Being an ex can be of help to one that is having difficulty. Integrity comes along with it, self esteem, values, positive person with a chance to grow in your work, relationships, all that you are and all you can become, respect for self and from others, trust, honesty, morals, so many reasons to be a good ex.
Good Luck

"Don't do what I do, do what I say." That never works. Kids do what you do.
