Went to get in 7 hours later no power to central lockingand car wont turn over. Put battery on charge but only reading 1amp so dont think it was dead? Any ideas?

Hi

Your battery could have plenty of voltage but no amps, and it is the amps which are the important factor when it comes to starting your car.

Leave you old battery on charge for a while and then see if it starts the car. If it does then you're sorted, if it doesn't then read on:-

Take you battery off, take it to an autofactors, and have them test it on their tester. They will do this for free and you are then in the right place to buy a new battery if yours is duff.

You need to take the voltage when you try to turn the engine over - 2 man job.

If it drops below 8 volts its dead. This happened to my Citroen - 0.8 volts under load, 12.4 no load. This will show a normal voltage with no load, but nothing useful under load. Internal short or other damage to the battery which means a replacement I'm afraid.

Good luck

I think your battery is dead - if nothing happens when you turn the key im almost certain, get someone to give you a jump start and i bet it starts.
