Why would their need to be a background check with the police? It is the archdiocese that has been hiding the child raping priests. I still don't know why parents of victims didn't go to the police instead of the church. How convenient it is if there is some cardinal rule that such things need to be reported to the church only or it is some kind of sin or violation of church rule. One priest was prolific in his rapes and as he was sent from church to church after complaints were made against him repeatedly and he got access to more and more victims both boys and girls. He is said to be the worst child rapist of all. NOT ONE PARENT HAD REPORTED HIM TO THE AUTHORITIES!!!

Anyone working with children in Australia has to undergo a police check. Teachers, scoutmasters, priests, swimming coaches, sporting referees and umpires, everyone. I was a guest in a few schools earlier this year giving a talk to the kids and I had to have a check before I could be accepted in the program.

No, they do not go through any police checks and I would not allow my kid to go to Sunday school by himself or without being aware of the situation and how to recognize it.

Yes.

Every adult in the United States that works with children in a Catholic setting is fingerprinted and goes through training. This rule includes bishops, priests, and deacons.

With love in Christ.
