For the most part, condoms are very reliable. But as with any form of birth control they may fail. Most often this is due to user error - incorrect application, incorrect size etc. Also, brands can play a big role in this. The cheaper condoms may be attractive right now - after $20,000 is spent just to get the baby into the world you may have wished that you sprung for the better quality.
All birth control has some risks of failure. As stated above, that is mostly due to user error.
If you use condoms and want to help insure that there are no surprises - a second form of birth control would be prudent. Such as a spermicide. There are several - the best probably being Gynol II - for over the counter options. This ensures that even if the condom breaks there is a back up in place.
If you have a fear of condoms breaking - then a diaphragm with spermicide is a good alternative. It blocks the sperm - and if properly cared for, a good diaphragm won't let you down. They are specifically fitted for each woman. A spermicide applied to the diaphragm makes the likelihood of becoming pregnant under1%.
Condoms are good and provide protection, but should always be used with a spermicide just in case the unexpected happens.

I honestly think people who say they got pregnant using a condom -- and didn't experience breaking, tearing, or slipping off -- either used them TOTALLY incorrectly or are not being quite truthful.
For instance, if you slap Vaseline or baby oil as a lubricant on your condom, it can create little holes in about 45 seconds. Anything that is not water-based is highly damaging to latex. Condom instructions clearly state this, but lots of people don't follow the instructions.
Statistics (which in my opinion, are a little outdated), show that when used perfectly, condoms are about 98% effective. This means that over the course of a year, they studied 100 women and their partners having sex using condoms perfectly. Two women out of 100 became pregnant. Those pregnancies came about when a condom broke or spilled even when the condom was used perfectly, manufacturing flaws (extremely rare), or perhaps someone not being truthful about having used them perfectly.
The effectiveness rating for condoms is 98%, which is only a percent behind the pill. The pill is a birth control method which women get pregnant on also -- they forget to take their pills, or take them at varying times, and wind up pregnant. And still blame the pill for the pregnancy.
In reality, the large majority of condom and pill failures are entirely due to the user, not the product.
So, if you plan on using condoms as birth control, follow the instructions perfectly (using quality condoms) and you should be fine. In the rare event that you use a condom perfectly and it breaks or slips anyway, be prepared to get emergency contraception if you do not wish to get pregnant.

Personally I find them very effective the moment we stopped using them we got pregnant.
I'm sure there are alot of people out there that have used them correctly and they still got pregnant, as they are said to be 99.9% effective.
I'm also sure there are alot of people who lie about using condoms because they do know better.
My advice go on the pill to protect yourself from unwanted pregnancy AND use a condom to protect from disease.
Better to be safe than sorry hey.

I absotulety accept as true with you...there must be needed condom utilization guidelines! yet regardless of this, who will (or needs to) or can implement it? Your sting operations theory is thrilling yet i'm positive there some thing interior the books that announces that luring someone into sexual relationships is unlawful....there should be a extra appropriate technique to implement condom utilization...until eventually it really is discovered, we ought to count heavily on getting suggestion accessible...make it look ugly notwithstanding it should be accessible. moms and dads favor to strengthen a backbone and search for suggestion from from their youthful ones about 'it'. intense faculties (and center faculties in some communities) ought to pass out loose condoms...universities obviously favor to succeed in this besides.
