In the original, both people died. So unless this is a new group of folks stranded in the ocean, what do the fimmakers hope to accomplish with it? Not to mention, it was not good enough to deserve a sequel, and many folks agreed due to its lack of success.

It's in stores already. Was released in the last week or two.

From the box cover, I wasn't able to make out if the victims are the same (which is impossible) or a different group.

It is a new group of people. They are out on a yacht and go swimming but forget to lower the ladder, thus stranding them in the ocean. I'm not even sure there are sharks in this one. Supposedly this does happen. And while the film may not have been good enough, at least in your opinion (and mine), to warrant a sequel, it should be noted that the original cost 130k, not million, thousand, to make, and grossed about 40 million in theaters and that's before DVD. So when it was all said and done, the studio was looking at about 50 - 60 million in profit and name recognition. Artistically it's not a good reason to make a sequel but financially it makes complete sense.

There wasn't much point really.
Just a money hungary & selfish film producer, wanting to "guess' & "exploit" a shark story that no one can really prove the truth.
All this film managed to do, was upset the families and turn more people against sharks with the fear factor.
How can the producer assume that the girl just gave her life up & chose to sink to the bottom of shark infested waters??
C'mon, really?

To answer that question first you would have to answer what was the point of "Open Water"? That movie is the all time biggest waste of time. Based on a true story? Then why did they die in the movie when in real life they lived?
