You can work ouija either by yourself or with up to 4 people. I have heard it can be dangerous to use yourself, but I have yet to see any proof of any detrimental effects. I've also heard better results are acheived with more people, but I think that it doesn't matter as long as you feel safe, secure, and confident that you will contact a spirit.
Put the board on a steady sturdy surface. First say a prayer to whoever you believe in, to protect you from harm. Sit in front of the board with both your hands touching the planchette; just your two fingertips on each hand, your index fingers & your middle fingers. Do not press hard, just kind of hover your fingertips above the planchette touching very lightly. Now take a deep breath and relax. You should start with the planchette placed in the middle of the board.
Start by asking if there is a spirit present in the room. You may then wait and see if the planchette starts to move. If it does, continue asking questions and just glide your fingers along with the pulling feeling that you get with the planchette. If it doesn't move be patient. Continue to ask if a spirit would like to communicate with you. If you recieve contact, try to establish who the spirit is, an age, and circumstance of death. Remember these details for future communications. I have heard that certain spirits become attuned to each board individually.
Always end the conversation by dismissing the spirit, thanking it for contact, and saying goodbye. That is very important.
Usually if the room is dim, quiet, and candlelit contact works better. I have heard that spirits can see candle light far better than unnatural light. You may also want to remove any pets from the room as they tend to get spooked when the ouija is being used, because they can see spirits whereas we cannot.
Good luck and have fun!
PS..ignore all the "ouija is evil" crap from the christians. Used safely, the ouija is an excellent communication tool and even if you do not contact any real spirits there is always the chance of communicating with your inner self.

First, take caution. While it is rare and questionable, I have heard of accounts of people playing with a Ouija board and having serious consequences ranging from the board flying and hitting them to actual "possession." If you attempt to use a Ouija board, I would suggest finding someone who knows what they are doing and have some sage or your favorite blessing or prayer on hand.
Ouija boards are relatively simple to use, and work on the theory that a ghost, spirit, angel, demon, or other entity will use your body to make the planchette move to different letters and communicate. This is why you want to keep your pointer and middle fingers on the planchette while attempting to use the Ouija board, but do so lightly as to make sure you are not interfering with its movements yourself.
The idea of the Ouija board is to communicate with "the other side" so to speak. You can ask yes or no questions for quick results or ask them to spell out things such as their name or a message.
The majority of those who do play with a Ouija board get no results, or someone in the group is actually moving the planchette themselves, knowingly or just by accident.
There are safer methods you can try for spirit communication. Dowsing rods and pendulums usually have great results for almost anyone who tries them, and there are almost no cases where someone has been injured due to playing with them. The only point to make here is that both dowsing rods and pendulums are easy to manipulate, so it can be hard at times to tell if you are actually moving them. A steady hand with an elbow rested on a table can help alleviate some of our natural human interference.
Most importantly, take caution. The paranormal is not something to play with, despite a Ouija board being marked as a toy and sold in toystores nationwide.

No, Ouija boards work. Both the conscious and unconscious movement can be disproven, in most cases, by a simple experiment. Get two people using the board and blindfold them, and have a third to write down the letters. Most of the time, you WILL get a coherent response to your question. It freaked me out when my friends and I tried it, and I was both one of the blindfolded people and the one recording the message (at different times, of course). Anyway, there IS a possibility of being possessed by spirits, so have a shield up around your bodies (just don't let it touch your hands or the board. I've never been possessed, and have never witnessed anyone being possessed, so the odds are pretty low. Although one of my friends did have a nasty spirit come in and start knocking things off the walls, once. ^_^
Well, now that I'm done mindlessly ranting, time to answer your question. XD The instructions come with the board.

Just ask your God (what ever you might call it)From the back of the book "Conversation with God":
Go a head and ask now. Ask anything. Anything. I will contrive to bring you the answer. The whole universe will I use to do this. So be on the lookout; this is far from my only tool. You may ask a question, then put this book down. But watch. Listen. The words to the next song you hear. The information in the next article you read. The story line of the next movie you watch. The chance utterance of the next person you meet. Or the whisper of the next river, the next ocean, the next breeze that caresses your ear-ALL THESE DEVISES ARE MINE; all avenues are open to Me. I will speak to you if you listen. I will come to you if you invite Me. I will show you then that I have always been there. All ways.
.........I hope this helps you realize you don't need toys to get answers. peace
But if you feel you do, God can use them as well.

Are you willing to gamble and possibly lose? It could just be a fake and nothing could happen, or something might happen and you could get hurt. I would stay away from it if I were you because of the possible risk. -and yes, I am a Catholic too so that just adds to my reasons to stay away-

If you really want my advice, its NOT to touch it.
You are playing with something you do not understand, or know how to handle. People have become possessed. There IS a LOT of evil wandering around on this plane, so give it a wide birth.
Go visit your local SPIRITUALIST CHURCH would be a safer and better option. For your own sake : Do not PLAY with OUIJA boards! please.

You put your hands on the planchette with someone else and it moves - because one of you is consciously moving it, or because of the ideomotor effect (unconsciously moving it). But you're not actually contacting anything - it's all you.

no, No NO!!! dont use it, its not safe!!! people have been possesed because of it!!! (yes, i am christian, but its my job to tell people this) when you invite spirits to "tell your future", or something, you could be inviting evil spirits as well as good ones when you do this.
okay, now on another note, besides the people who have bad experiences like this, most of the rest of them get nothing... so its totally not worth it!!!! dont do it!!!!!!
