tell me the difference with yesterdays debacle, if memory serves me correctly, at that time both clubs were warned about their future behaviour, one club have learnt their lessen, whereas one arrogant club are up to their old tricks, what do you think should be their punishment ?

its a good point but the difference for me was this 'brawl' was mainly pushing and handbags....also the managers ran on the pitch to calm them down.... utd shd win the league anyway they have been the best team all season by far and without any blemishes as far as coduct goes......if they dont win the champions league they only have themselves to blame.......they are better than most teams and have that hunger again.....

Whilst not excusable behaviour it should be remembered that this was a Cup Final with 22 men wanting to add winners medals to their collection - a bit different to the United v. Arsenal scenario.
I agree that there should be some punative action taken, but to suggest a points deduction seems a little unjustifiable.
I think that both teams should be banned from the League Cup next season, and that should be all.
It should also be remembered that Arsenal had a team of youngsters out who had little experience of dealing with the big occasion.
I don't believe that punitive measures are transferable in the context of points deduction as the punitive measures that are at the FA's disposal - when dealing with a football club and not an individual - are bans from the said competition and financial penalties.
Arsenal will be penalised in the League as the ban that Adebayor and no doubt Toure will receive will also pass over to the next 3 Premiership fixtures.

Are you talking about 1990, when both Manchester United & arsenal were both fined 50 grand, with Manchester United having 1 point deducted & arsenal deducted 2 points, when there was a brawl involving 21 Football Players. Lola I watched the game, and can assure you that some of those who were involved, were left on to finish the game, and was able to pick up a medal!!!!!!

I agree they should have points deducted in the league ( I am a man u fan though!!!) They could also take the cup of them and have the 2 runners-up play. That would give out a message. How can they expect fans to behave when they can't? Just look at the way Lille police reacted to the overcrowding with man u fans, immediately they expected trouble. these are grown professional men not school yard kids!

Dont really know the answer, but i'm with Kolo on this.It wasn't pretty and both teams where in the wrong. Face it there was no danger there of anyone getting hurt, most of them couldn't knock the skin off a rice pudding....Punishment? can only be a fine, and that's the fans hard earned money.

to the question they cant be deducted points cos it was in the cup and a totally different football body so think they can only be fined??
football league cup
FA premiere league
they are two different bodies and i doubt the FA would deduct points for something that happend in another organisation dont quote me tho?? i think a ban can and will be carried across the two bodies we shall see my freind.?

A fine is a waste of time so a points deduction is the only answer.

dock them points! hit them where it matters most, there points tally. only then can the FA be effectively breathing down on thuggery of some that seems to be bred by its ineffective handling and kids-glove treatment to a certain team.
it's really appalling but perhaps the FA is influenced by someone sitting in its ranks? i don't know.

yesterday wasn't a fight, it was handbags at dawn! a lot of pushing and shoving and bad language.
and as superdeano said, it's 2 different competitions so i doubt very much if they'll do anything about something that didn't affect their own competition.
and i don't think they should, the people involved got sent off so they're having their own punishment of team fines and match bans.
