Double standards and stereotypes. Just because a guy doesn't like sports doesn't mean he's gay. On the contrary, one of my gay male friends loves football and comes over and watches it with my husband and his friends. Me, my girlfriends and our other gay male friends are like "whatever" and then we go shopping. This is a stupid thing and unfair to men. I know alot of straight chicks who like things like football and fishing. They don't get called lesbians. It's the same thing as us women being able to say another woman is pretty and we're not called lesbians. But if a guy were to say another man is handsome then people think he's gay. It's stupid.

Well, in addition to the fact that sports like football are such a big part of our culture, and thus, "foisted" upon young boys as a valuable form of exercise and "team participation," there are a LOT of guys with some serious self-image issues.
Oh, I guarantee you, most guys would never admit to such issues, much less even be self-searching enough to even consider them, but they're there.
At times, it's almost amusing to see the lengths guys go to to convince themselves that they're "macho," as opposed to "effeminete."
It's a whole "walk tall-talk tough-look rough" psychology. You've seen how a lot of guys are into fairly "aggressive" forms of greetings. By that, I mean slugging each other on the shoulder as opposed to a hug? They don't want to appear "soft" or "touchy."
These are the same guys who have trouble with things like massage therapy, because if a WOMAN touches them, it's sexual, and if a GUY touches them, it's sexual and unthinkable.
Yes, the sports thing is only one of the trees in a much larger forest that is called "male self-image."

I dont like any sports either. Only for me its especially soccer.
No-ones ever thought I was gay because of that. And I come from a pretty redneck area too.
Weird connection to make, I gotta say. You sure thats the only thing that makes folks think youre gay?

There are only three things straight men talk about Women, Sports and Cars. Kick one of them into touch and they're bound to think that there's something "wrong" with you.

I don't know why they do. I think it's basically because society has form this image that men has to love sports. I don't think that men who do not play sports is gay, I think that men who complain if they messed up their hair or broke a nail in sports are.

Yeah I agree, people can be so retarded. Gays like sports too, even football.
I find though most blokes are into football to make them feel more masculine, hence they think that blokes who do not like football are gay. If you catch my drift.

I don't play soccer. I don't watch it, but my wife does. She's the one catching most of the match without me sitting next to her :)
I'm fine with such stereotype on "men who don't like sport are mostly gay" or "gay mostly don't like sport". I have gay friends who love soccer, hit the gym, and I'm sure some of them mainly checking for cute guys lol
Gay or not, we are human. And just heck care what others think of you, or your friends.

Because they don't understand the different. Being gay means 'you prefer to sleep with other men.' Not liking sports means 'you have better things to do with your time than watch grown men play games.' I know they sound similar, but really, they're different.

I think you're in denial. If you don't like football then you obviously wear pink all the time. What red-blooded American doesn't like watching men in extremely tight pants tumbling all over one another?
