Yes, perhaps. Or they really mean what they say. Sometimes what comes out of my mouth is not what my brain meant.

It's easy to destroy, much harder to create. Many people have a hard time to restrain themselves from being rude, sometimes from incidents in their past give them a kneejerk reaction to a perceived insult or threat. It's much harder to let an insult slide or aggressive behavior not bother you.
I tell my kids that what happened in the past is gone and every day is a new opportunity to make a fresh start. Grudges hurt everyone especially the person holding it.

Could be... also sometimes a jokey delivery is difficult to convey when typing and so a comment may be misinterpreted.

No I think that personal digs~ are some ways that people cant control themselves and they can be taken wrong or misinterpreted because those saying it want to lash out or just be plain rude to you.

always - or they say off remarks cos they have issues, it is SO seldom about you and majority of the time about them.

possibly, or they're just fed up and finally stopped being polite. it's really impossible to know without all the deatils.
