Write a short poem every morning. I write a little thing that has become known as the Daily Menu Poem in the remote industrial facility I work at. It's just eight lines about what's for dinner each night and I include current events or some little social satire, something about Britney for example. It's always tasteful but funny and everybody loves them. That will get your creative thinking juices going. It sort of flows into everything else... Once your mind is engaged it stays engaged throughout the day.
Well, that and coffee!

The questions a bit vague but I'll give it a shot. The reason I say it's vague is depending on what the problem is is depending on what kind of creative solution you need to put towards it.

As a general rule though most times you need to think outside the box. See when we learn something, (say drawing) we're given a set of rules to go by. If you always think based on those rules you're staying "in the box". It's nice and orderly and you always fall back on the guidlines you've learned. The problem is it's limiting and if you come across a problem that those guidlines don't quite fix where is there to go but to start thinking outside the box. These solutions can come from anywhere and may not have anything to do with the problem in front of you but you can use something to fix your dilema. It's creative problem solving.

Say your driving along with your chick and you snap the alternator belt at night and your headlights are getting dim. You don't have "Triple A" And you don't have tools. You try making a call on your cell and there's no signal. Look around and see what you have. She's wearing panty hose and there's a broken bottle. If you think inside the box you'll think I have to have a belt and tools to fix this. thinking outside you'll take the broken glass and use it to cut up her stockings to rig up a belt to get you home. It may not seem like this would help you in art but the same thing applies.

Try not to limit yourself to what you've learned. Creativity can come from anywhere and we can get inspiration from anything you just have to open yourself up to it. Don't limit yourself just by what you've learned, expand yourself with the knowledge you gain.

Hope this helps

I do my best creative thinking either in the bathroom or at lunch by myself. I need a small space and no people to distract me. Also, if me and my best friend get in a small room and start making funny jokes, it's better because there's no distractions. That's my advice. Leave the outside world OUTDISE and let your mind take over.

Also, if I have a good idea, but I can't firm it up "right now" then I jot a note to myself...the main points and get back to it while I'm alone.

For starters throw your TV out of the window. Practice looking for objects in the patterns of clouds. Write a poem or words to a song.

Hmm... Well, I think you have to immerse yourself in the arts. Literature, painting, film, and music. And as one poster said, you really have to think out of the box.
