I think most people would disagree with you. The Queen was a well made movie, but it was mostly about the performance of Helen Mirren - and Michael Sheen probably could have been nominated as well. While I'm glad I saw it, the movie didn't do anything for me. I don't care about the royals and their problems, and I don't understand why the public was so obsessed over Diana. Furthermore, the movie felt more like a made for TV movie than a big screen feature film.

Didn't see The Queen, yet. Thought Little Miss Sunshine was a better movie than The Departed. I like Scorsese's movies. This one should have been better with the cast he had.

"The Departed" was a more creative story line than "The Queen".
It involved a greater number of "acting" roles. However, the main character in "The Queen" did a great job. The Departed was of more interest to general audiences. The Queen was more biographical in its nature.

I've seen The Departed. The Queen looked pretty boring.
The Departed ruled!

That life is tough, and that basically a true and fairly well-known story about a preposterpous, self-centered, pompous b*tch isn't quite as appealing as an action-packed, complex thriller. Well done and great are not the same.
P.S.
Check out the votes - so far, all guys like The Departed, all girls like The Queen. Figures, right? LOL

Oscars have been giving out awards based on previous works and politically motivated reasons for some time now. Martin Scorceze has been waiting his turn for sometime. At least it wasn't crap like Crash this year.
