I have been meditating for one and a half year. I am less stressed now and worrying less. But my main motive for meditating was to get rid of laziness and gain will power. But I could not get any result in this. I am meditating for about half an hour daily by observing my thougts without any attachment. I am interested in Vipassana meditation. I realise that meditation can do wonders but I want to know if I have to be patient for getting rid of my laziness or is it that I am not meditating in a proper way.

Hey, basically meditation is supposed to make you feel relaxed and calm........more suitable for the fast-paced people to slow down. If you are meditating, you have now become more relaxed and probably got the 'relaxed carefree' attitude.

Secondly, it improves your concentration. But YOU need to move and ensure that you use this great power of concentration to get good results in your work / family life, instead of just wrongly assuming that it will move you out of your couch

Meditation will not help you move, a good kick on the backside will !

Sure, it can help, but it isn't the only thing you have to do. I have the same problem. I don't feel like doing anything that I should be doing. The meditation is calming and encouraging, but that is all it is. I am procrastinating.
You make time for the meditation. You also need to make time for living.
I know that I am missing some things in my life and so I am not motivated. Maybe, when you find what would make you feel better about yourself or less lonely, then you would actually become productive again.
May we both overcome this because it is, frankly, a waste.

Meditation is quite effective for gaining peace of mind and general relaxation. It does help a lot with concentration and give energy but will not stop you from being lazy. Praying is also good but it's your way of thinking that affects how lazy you are. Start thinking that you are not lazy and you will gradually feel more energetic in life. Get motivated by doing exercise or how about time management? That way you'll stick to what you aim to get done even if you don't feel like doing it.

If you've been doing it for one and a half year and you're still lazy, that means it does not work.
Stop meditating and start working. Or do something.
Meditating is a way for stressed people (of working too much) to relax. If you're lazy but meditating, you'll become more lazy.
Aks this: Are you stressed?

Hi friend DN, the very trying to keep mind still is an obstacle to keep it so. No need to control the mind. No need to concentrate even. Simply observe what your mind is doing. Let it wander. Why do you want to stop it? Simply watch it. Automatically on its own the mental activity gradually ceases. Then a state of tranquility could be easily attained. I have been practising Transcendental meditation technique imparted by His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the disciple of Sri Brahmananda Saraswathi. To make the technique the most successful a word with a few syllable is given and we usually call it by the name mantra. Actually the mantra is not doing the miracle but the right technique that we follow does it. So better learn the technique right from some initiator or simply observe your mind sitting in a calm location simply closing the eyes. All the best.

if what you are doing isn't working then find out about utilizing your body and developing your own discipline in the process.

look up a Martial arts school and see what they have to offer. you are meditating which is a spiritual tool and that's a good thing. martial arts takes you beyond your own pain threshold and seems to develop a self discipline beyond reason. this seems to be the strength you are looking for in mind, body and spirituality.
