Its telling me that 'no device found'! HELP!!
Also, we seem to have lost the 'standby' from the shut down and a few keys on the keyboard are swapped around or missing. I also installed CA Anti-virus at the time...could this be the cause of the problems?

-first check if the sound isn't muted
click on start > control panel(classic view) > sound and audio devices
In the sound properties panel that opens, see if the box in front of Mute is checked.

Uncheck it if it is checked, press apply, press ok.
-If you are using windows xp, you can use the system restore option in system tools to restore your computer to an earlier restore point, restore at the date when the speakers were working properly. That should solve the problem.

-If you are unable to restore them , then check if there is any sound on the pc
start > control panel > sound and audio devices
click on sounds tab
At the bottom choose a program event, and it will display a drop down menu under sounds. If you click on it many default sounds will be listed, choose one and click on the play button, you should hear a sound. if you do not listen any sound here then you have to reinstall the sound card drivers

-Click on control panel > System > hardware > device manager.
It will show you all the hardware. If the sound card's driver shows yellow question mark then it means it is not installed properly. Press on "+" sign to expand, right click on the driver that has a yellow question mark and select properties. Click on update driver and insert the driver CD in cd drive. This will re-install the sound card's driver
-click on start > run
type dxdiag
press ok
directX diagnostic tool opens
click on sound tab
note down the name of the device

-use everest free Home Edition to detect the sound card

Once you find the name of manufacturer of the sound card and the product ID then you can do a google search to get its drivers for your version of windows. Download and install the proper drivers

the problem of your audio. is telling you that no device is found because you have not installed you audio drivers. when you reinstalled your XP it didn't installed the audio drivers. this is very common when installing a fresh copy of any OS program. you need to install them yourself using your motherboard drivers cd. if you don't have them look for at the pc's site. regarding the other problems I have no idea. I looked for an answer for the stand by and couldn't find a reason why it is not there.

sorry and good luck

Go into Control Panel, then Sounds and Audio Devices then tick the box that sez Place Volume icon on The Tack Bar.

Also check you have the keyboard set to your actual keyboard. There are two english layouts - UK and USA

Hope that solves your problem

Disable your antivirus and try to reinstall the driver for the sound card. For the stand - by issue you can go to the notification option in XP.
