The Bronsted-Lowry theory says a base is a proton acceptor. Hence OH-, NH3 etc...

A Lewis base is one which can donate a pair of electrons in a co-ordinate bond. H2O, NH3, F-, [EDTA]4-. All ligands are Lewis bases.

An expression you should only ever use if you are an American preadolescent! As I understand it:
