There's some truth in it. There's a saying "whether you think you can or you can't, you're right". People who are sure of their own self-worth tend to believe that they are capable, that they are responsible for their own future and for their own happiness ~ or that God is, but if so, then they are in active partnership with God. This is to a large extent a self-fulfilling prophecy. Also, people who know they are of worth are more likely to be optimists. Optimism also is partially self-fulfilling.
Fear is energy. The more we fear something, the more likely we are to bring it about.
Affirmations ARE a way of bringing our mind into a positivity that is not there before. But without WILL and ACTION, ordinary affirmations have little more power than a sweet wish. Also, we need to repeat our chosen affirmation abundantly and with inner conviction so that it penetrates both the conscious and in time the subconscious mind.
Spiritualised affirmations are a special case. When a great Master has already infused the words with the power of God we can tap into that reservoir of power so to speak, when we make the affirmation our own. That is why Sanskrit mantras such as the Gayatri or the Loka Samasta can be disproportionately beneficial. For practical spiritual affirmations for the modern world, and guidance on how best to use them, you can go to http://www.srf-yogananda.org and order the small book Scientific Healing Affirmations.

Well, yes - to a certain extent. If you maintain a positive outlook, you are more attractive to people and are therefore more likely to have help if you need it, and if you look on the bright side of everything, nothing seems quite so bad. There's very little life throws at you that you really can't cope with.

It definitly works...you create your own reality and how ever you view yourself and the world makes reality what it is...to you. It is one of the most important things in life to have a positive outlook and self-opinion.
I have changed my life by altering my perceptions for the better.

It really works.Everything has a beginning in your mind.Thoughts and general state of mind reflects in your life. And it works in both directions - if you've low self-esteem and don't expect much from life you'll probably won't achieve much.
There are loads of books out there about that.
Everything in your life depends on you.

Many Moons ago, an American called Pelman made a small fortune with his book in which he insisted you sit in a corner and repeat over and over again "I can, and I will""......
By so doing he claimed you could achieve anything your heart desired......Try it.
