Not to rain on Don Scorsese's parade, but to win an Oscar this year because you were robbed the last 5 times does not mean it was earned. I am a huge Scorsese fan and hate to see the Academy give him the award out of sympathy for just an above average film (in light of Martin's complete collective body of work). Good job Ampas, you screwed up again.

What do you expect when a movie like West Bank Story wins an award?? Give me a break, the Academy should be pistol-whipped for their ignorance...

Its just a bunch of rich people patting themselves on the back, i think it is a joke, and i don't get why others are so interested in all of these actors life's, they are normal people and they are flawed the same as all of us. It makes me sick that these rich idiots throw themselves a party to marvel at themselves.

A ginormous room full of extremely wealthy, pampered, self-centered ego-bots gathered together to kiss one another's collective bums over how freaking marvelous they all are and get $70,000 gift bags for taking the time to come there and get kissed up to !! While the world is full of people literally dying at this very minute for the need of a $ 500 surgery or need of $ 100 worth of food---and then these exact same people have the bleeding gaul to stand in front of a camera and ask US what WE are going to do about the STARVING CHILDREN IN THE WORLD ??? IT's enough to make you want to just let go and go rabid on someone !!! The sickest thing of all--- they actually think that they're worth all this attention and money and special everything simply because they can recite lines and sit in a make-up chair for a few hours a day !! It is decadence beyond belief and the absolute saddest testimony to our culture that exists !!!

I agree with you about The Departed. It should have been much better what with the cast and director it had.

But, the Oscars is a trade show (a really glorified tade show but a trade show nevertheless) and it is the trades people's votes that count. They are supposed to be the people who know what is good in their trade and they probably are, for the most part.

It would be nice if they took out the political opinions - seemed better this year, though. I want my political information/speculation from journalists, not entertainers.

But, some people believe movie stars, sports figures and musicians are better people than they are so maybe the opinions of movie stars, sports figures and musicians are better than theirs, too. Bread and Circuses....

I totally agree. Oscars are not fair, they just reflect the opinion of some people. However beauty is on the eye of the beholder.

I completely agree. I've never understood the fascination and I have never agreed with their choices either. The costumes are hideous as well.
