Ancient Egypt was split into 3 Kingdoms, Upper, Middle and lower Egypt. Trade ties have been found with southern africa for its silks and food and as far east as china for precious jewels.Early settlement of primative cultures was approx.3100bc.
The first Dynasties were born then and so Egypt was born.Egypt did not at that time have any sea born trade routes. Greece controled the meditaranian sea, till the romans came along and crushed them, and destroyed Egypt through cleopatra.
Early settlers, pre 3100bc were thought to have come from western and southern Africa.
Ancient Egyptians regarded equinoxes and floods as special times to worship the gods, But mostly Egytians worshiped all the time, as they had gods for almost everything in everyday life.
A good reference book for you to get is...

Dependent on how far back ancient you want to go, I would say they are closely tied to Greece. Egypt was named Egypt by the Greeks after a large number of them inhabited it. It used to be called Crete by the Africans. Look at the Egyptians and you can see the resemblence. But sometime in between Hannibals conquering and Moses leading his people out of Egypt and across the Red Sea, the name was changed.
