It’s like a lot of other things. Is comics your sole obsession? Then it’s probably bad for you. Do comics stimulate your imagination and make you want to read other books? Then it’s good for you. Do you want to emulate the villains and steal, kill and destroy? Then you need to get treatment. Do you want to emulate the heroes, save lives, prevent crime when possible, stop crime when necessary, protect people’s property, help them? Then you are the kind of citizen any country should be proud of.

Comics of a story telling type are good. With illustration, the child is invited to read, gather information. Comics in our country also includes stories from the "Puranas" amd is a good base for the child to know more about the cultural heritage of the country. Comics depicting violence is certainly not good for the child. Comics also stir the imagination of the child and the thinkinh habit is also nurtured.Comics keep the child busy and prevents him from being messy. But comics all the time certainly not advisable. Comics are slowly getting replaced by Cartoon Networks. Good comics are always an asset for the child

Depends on the comic, and how often the child is reading them. Also are you talking about the sunday comics or comic books? Comics are for entertainment, and are usually not teching anything educational. Some are quite dark, violent and vulgar. I do believe they can help reading skills for children. Use them as an award, just be aware of what your child is reading.

I was not allowed to read comics as a kid I was told that they were a waste of time. To this day I have never read a comic I look at them when I'm in the book store, but I have never read one. I think that if I was allowed to read comics when I was younger I could have been a better reader.

Comics are like books for children to teens
Almost everyone likes comics Ever heard of MAD, Archie comics and etc. Those are comics that started way back in th 1950.
And still be a big success to all readers around the world.

Its a good habit. It increases the imagination power. The ability to sit and concentrate becomes easier through reading comics. It also improves the vocabulary power. And they get to know about what is happening in the world tough not exactly but to some extend.

Comics allowed kids to process reading with action that is going on, it allows correlation. Now you have to take material into consideration, but for my 6 and 8 year olds I let them read Archie regularly, and they love reading it. It's not whether comics are good or bad in my opinion, but rather what they actually are exposed to, which is a parents job.

First , it promotes reading and by the way you spelled favor, I'm guessing your British. We have a really really hard time getting Johnny to read here in the states.
Just like anything, it can be overdone. If everything that gets read is comic books, then that's bad. But its a good place to start to learn to read. I did!!! Noew I have a masters in english!!!

Yes, reading comics in chilhood is good and helps the child in development. Comics broaden the outlook of a child and he/she would develop "sense of humour", an element necessary to balance one's thinking, as also become adventurous in life. I would prefer a child reading comics, then watch TV programmes, as this would develop reading habit, which can later on extend to reading more serious stuff. I am in my 60's and still love to read comics!
