Being that it is an automatic transmission, it has no disconnect clutch, pilot, or throw-out bearings, so disregard the previous posts.
Noise coming from bell housing? Torque converter. Check your transmission fluid level, and smell oil on dipstick. If it is burned-smelling, take it in and have a transmission flush and refill done, then run it and see how it fares.

nicely i had an analogous problim with my f150. i've got been given a 1990 4x4 standared cab with duel tanks and the potential pak that provides the spark to the distributor went undesirable and a while it would run and sometime it wouldnt it made no experience yet u ought to desire to confirm that still... in spite of the undeniable fact that it like a $3 hundred section the place i stay so i might get a mechanic to confirm if its undesirable first

is the noisy a high pitch whistle? if it is it's a throwout bearing. if its a pilot bearing, your almost never gonna hear anything, but rough shifting. my guess is check the lube level. and im guessing its low and your bearings are probably fried. it doesnt take much to fry the input shaft roller(needle) bearings. once it gets sloppy, it'll wreck your gearbox. it is possible to inspect and even replace them without removing the countershaft, but you will never remove the input shaft without removing the countershaft.

hey i had to have my ex wife put the needle bearings in. id tried all day, my fingers were just to big. she asked to try. i handed her a rag and white grease, turned the tranny towards her on the table and cracked a beer. she did it with 2 tries. god was i glad.
