I travel a lot from state to state and i access the internet through my verizon wireless cell phone, but its too slow. Is there another way of accessing the internet from anywhere without needing a cable to connect to a phone line or another cable that is inside of buildings? I usually access the internet from my vehicle. Can anyone explain a way that I can access the internet through another means besides through a cellphone? I have a Gateway MX6436 laptop computer.

This is what I would try.
Get a Wireless access card (Linksys or belkin) for your laptop. Then download a program called Airsnort. The Airsnort program is available at the following website http://airsnort.shmoo.com

Airsnort will scan for available wireless networks and allow you to connect to them. It is not easy to use, but with a little practice, you should be able to make it work.

There are only two ways of getting internet access from a laptop wirelessly, through a wireless network (802.11a/b/g/n) or through a celular modem such as the one you are using now.

My first instinct would be to contact your cellular provider and ask them why you are getting such slow connection speeds. It's possible that you could upgrade your hardware and fix the problem right away.

I'm afraid your only other option is to get out of your car and go into a coffee shop, internet cafe, bookstore, library, or other place that offers free WiFi for your laptop.

I have a PPC6700 cell phone known as a UTSTARCOM, I connect via USB and anywhere I have cellular phone service, I can make a connection through my phone via the laptop. Basically your phone will act as a wireless modem and dial out a connection, in some areas the internet is generally pretty quick, depending upon your carrier. Recomendations of places to check could be ALLTEL, QWEST, and Verizon Wireless. I have unlimited internet through QWEST which is $19.99 a month, elsewhere it can be pretty expensive. The unlimited internet is definitely worth it for me!

I'm not the absolute authority on this so you should still do some checking, but I beliove you can by this card from T-mobile that sticks into the side of your computer. It makes it so that you can recieve a wireless signal almost anywhere. It's pretty expensive though. (I think $60 a month) but it can be worth it if you travel all the time.
