Libraries usually use book wholesalers like Ingram and Baker & Taylor to order books. These companies send us huge catalogs each month of books that are going to be published in the next few weeks.

We use book reviews from a variety of sources to decide which books to order. Kirkus, Publisher's Weekly, SLJ for kid's books. As a librarian, I also use the NYT bestseller list, reviews in People, Ent. Weekly, the local newspaper, etc. to help choose books. These are the usual sources for our patrons to find books, so they are often the books people ask for.

Journals such as Library Journal, School Library Journal, and BookList are selection tools that librarians use to review books.
