I have a friend who's CRB check has taken 6 months and counting. She has never committed a crime, and she has only ever lived in 2 cities. Has anyone else dealt with such delays before. They've had all the time they're allowed, plus the extra time by which they must send it on and it doesn't seem to matter that they still haven't got it back. That's 6 months loss of earnings for her. Has anyone managed to reseolve such problems with the CRB agency, or sued for loss of earnings from them? As this is what her dad wants her to do.

My girlfriends CRB check has taken 7 months now and still waiting. We have sent numerous complaints and letters but they say that are still waiting for the "police" checks and there is nothing they can do.

We have mentioned loss of earnings and apparaently they have a compensation department so it would be a good idea to write to them demanding your loss of earnings back.

Hope this helps.

I've had three CRB checks done in the past for work - none took more than six weeks. I suspect I was lucky on those occasions though. The CRB have a very patchy history in terms of their service/efficiency and it is no surprise to hear your friends experience. I do not believe that anyone would attempt to sue the CRB - it is a government quango afterall and even if legally you could pursue I would imagine that it would be impossible to find a lawyer to take it on.

Sorry it's not more positive!

Even if your friend's check came out with a disclosure, she should have had a response by now. I am surprised that the organisation she is going to work for has not chased the CRB up by now. It sounds as if the CRB have never received the application, or else have lost it, as in my experience, they are only taking 4-6 weeks at present. Your friend should contact her potential employer and get them to either remind the CRB or send another form.

My DBS finally after 5months of chasing it has been done. Its ridiculous how hard they made for normal people to chase it up dbs. I send them numerous complain emails after 4 I got reply loads of sincere apologies. When asked about loss of earnings or how they like to call it Redress payment. Didn t get any reply, so I will carry on sending emails till I get reply. Good luck to professionals out there who is still waiting for DBS.

Maybe they have the answer to your question in their FAQ's.

Or, your friend has the same name as some other very naughty woman.

Hard to say, really...sorry, guess I'm not much help.
