i moved recently to LA and it's awesome. It's been better for me. You should totally consider it as long as it's something that's right for you. And you totally pick every kind of neighborhood you can think of in LA. And the music scene is awesome.

It depends what you like. If you like the big, mega city then LA is the best choice. The city has so much diversity, is huge, and there are so many things to do and places to see there. A lot of people hate on LA b/c it is such a sprawling, huge mess of a city but I think it's very dynamic and interesting and very modern. Always something to do or somewhere to go. It's a lot more crowded and congested than San Diego. But there are areas that have good transit so you don't need to solely rely on your car but you will want one, like Hollywood, Downtown, Mid Wilshire, ect.. You'll meet pretty mcuh every type of person there.
San Diego is great b/c it's a big city with tons of different things to do but still kind of has a small town feel to it almost b/c it's not nearly as big or congested as LA, much less traffic too. People are really friendly down here and there are a lot of transplants too so it shouldnt be hard to meet new people. The city I think has a great vibe to it and it's very laid back. The weather is great, never too hot, cold, or humid and it doesn't rain that often or at all in summer. It has the warmest ocean water in CA, although not nearly as warm as FL; usually in the low 70's in summer. It has great nightlife downtown and in Pacific Beach and elsewhere and a great beach atmosphere. There's always something to do year round and always some cool event going on. LA, Orange County, and Vegas are all pretty close and Mexico is a suburb basically. Housing is cheaper than LA and Orange County; it's still high but cheaper than LA/OC and the SF Bay Area. You can easily get 1 bedrooms for under $1,000 not too far from the beach, like a mile or two and within easy biking distance. Check out Pacific Beach, awesome beach community with tons of young people 20-30yo and great nightlife and party scene.
Both places are great, I live in SD and love it here. But LA is also an amazing city, so big and so much to do; it's more of the city, fast paces lifestyle there so if that's what you are looking for then try LA but if you want more laid back beach atmosphere then try SD.

San Diego is a beautiful city with nice weather. There's lot of things to do...it has beautiful sunsets and ocean scenery.
There's also lots to do in Los Angeles and there are beautiful areas. In my own opinion, San Diego seems cleaner and less congested.
On the downside, it is expensive to live in either San Diego or Los Angeles. However, wages are probably higher in California than in other states as well.
If you are serious about moving to either city, I would recommend checking job listings. A good source would be http://www.jobing.com, http://www.craigslist.com, or http://www.careerbuilder.com.
Also go to craigslist to get an idea on how much rent will cost. This should help you to make a decision.
Good luck to you!

Have you looked at the price of houses in California lately?
If you've got a good 4 million tucked away somewhere you could probably afford a decent house... or if you can shell out a thousand a month or so, you might be able to score a suitable appartment.
Good luck finding work too.

Well with that little details...no one can reallly answer you. I would look into your financial situation and job situation to see if that's something that you would realistically be able to do...look into housing, learn about the different areas in SoCal before making any decisions.
