I just recently got a Honda Prelude and I'm not sure if it is a base model or type SH. What are the 'obvious' physical reasons? I know that both have the DOHC Vtech stickers as well as the Type SH sticker on the rear but it looks like the previous owner took those stickers off on this vehicle. I also know that the Type SH has a stock wing but this Prelude has been modified.

8th # in vin is a 5 for SH, 4 for base
Engine serial # is H22A4-X000001 for base, H22A4-X500001 for SH
SH transmission is M2U4 (only manual)
Base transmission is M2Y4 (manual) M6HA (automatic)

Things SH has that are different:
ATTS (active torque transfer system), atts light in dash
ATTS has a cooler line from radiator
overall steering ratio SH: 15.61, base: 15.75
various additional sensors
Steering wheel has a 3rd notch (not visibal unless removed)
No 3rd brake light in the rear deck
Spoiler w/3rd brake light
5 Spoke rims
Round ring on shift boot
Round style shift knob
Courtesy lights on door panel
Different shocks/springs
Oil filter is higher up on engine block
Body colored side and rear lips
Type SH decal on the rear trunk

ATTS light in your cluster (only on when atts is not working or you 1st start the car)

This is all from Preludepower.com, I'm sure that is where the person above got their information from as well.

Keep the H22 and put a turbo on it. It will make plenty of power. Enough to where working the suspension will be a higher priority than the engine bc otherwise your just gonna be sitting there spinning the wheels.

well there are many physical differences you can look at:

SH have light on the inside of the doors
no 3rd brake light in rear deck lid, not the spoiler's light
atts light on instrument
oil filter locate high up behind the engine not below
round leather shift knob
5 spoke star style rims not blade
painted side skirts and rear lip

or you can just look up your VIN numbers
