Did the Academy make another statement by awarding Melissa Etheridge, an Oscar for Best original score/music "I need to Waka Up" from the documentary, An Inconvenient Truth?

Were the Oscars free of politics?

Will we be seeing more movies being made about the environment
in the coming months/years. Global warming...?

Were you surprised that nobody made any political harsh comments about the war in Iraq and everyone behaved themselves....?

Your thoughts.

Ok, alot of questions here but I will try to give you my opinion on all of them.
1) The Academy ALWAYS seems to be trying to make some sort of statement whether it's political or otherwise. Most everyone involved here is considered liberal in most circles so I don't think this should have come as a suprise to anyone.

2 & 3) See #1

4) There are other independent films about this already and some show at places like the Sundance festival as well as Cannes. Most of them don't make to the "mainstream" like An Inconvenient Truth did because they don't have a big name such as Al Gore involved.

5) I was mildly surprised but this has become such a boring show to me that I'm not sure I will watch next year. As it was, I only caught part of it last night, it was too BORING! The Oscars are way to much self congratulatory to me. Even the red carpet, everyone is so aware that they may end up on the best dressed or worst dressed list. It's no fun! People should wear what they want, when they want and where they want and not worry about what anyone else may think or say!

I don't really care about the Oscars -- at least who wins. It's just a big 'pat on your back' for a bunch of rich folks. Whatever. However, I do usually like to tune in for the beginning to see what the host will come up with.

While I like Ellen DeGeneris as a comedian and even as a talk show host, I did not think she was a very good Oscar host. She wasn't very funny. As for being political or not -- I'm glad it didn't get too political. The last thing I want to see/hear is a bunch of privileged actors telling me how to live my life. If I want to hear an actor speak, I'll pay $7 & go to the movies. Otherwise, I'm not interested in anything that comes out of their (collective) mouths.

I think all in all the Oscars turned out great.Ellen did better than I thought she would. With her wit she made the show outstanding. Not too sure about Melissa . But she deserved it . She has had her trials also and i am proud that she came out with an award .Politics. Well no not that much except Al Gore. He is just trying to make a statement. And no i wasnt surprised that the war in Iraq wasnt mentioned and glad also as we have had this war shoved down our throats for so long that people as a whole just dont wont to hear about it. They are tired and just want a night of an award show without it being repeated.

Whew...that's a lot of questions. I'll tackle the first three.

The host: Ellen did fine. No one will be asking for Chris Rock to return. No one, and I mean no one, holds a candle to Johnny Carson. The Oscars haven't been that classy in decades.

Surprises: Two big ones. Eddie Murphy was the favorite for best supporting actor and he lost to Alan Arkin. The Departed won the Best Picture. That may not seem to be a surprise to you, but the Academy doesn't often pick films with that much violence and blood. And the film wasn't Martin's best work.

Politics: No. An Inconvenient Truth is one of the most successful documentaries of all time. Hollywood is used to losing money with small films and documentaries.

All in all, it was a tame show, for better or worse.

There were so many statements made by the Academy that the show should be called "Academy Statements".
The Alan Arkin and Martin Scorcese awards were of merit nature and not for the movie they acted/directed.
I wonder how many people wanted to barf at the whole Melissa Etheridge bit. I think people act liberal so they won't come across as hateful to their peers but in reality the whole gay agenda sickens them.
I hope they use the more-likeable Will Ferrell or Jerry Seinfeld as a host next year.

The Oscars were free from politics. Although Jesus Camp was a great documentary, An Inconvenient Truth was just a bigger wake up call.

Personally, I hope the two oscars for Gore's documentary will push him to run for president.

Since Hollywood has lost their once-golden standard of having class, being professional and separating Art from Propaganda I do not for the most part watch new movies any more. So because I have not seen any of the movies that won or which were nominated, I did not bother. But it would not surprise me to hear that both Hollywood and the Oscar ceremonies are even more depraved than before. However, Ellen De Generis being gay is a non-issue - after all, 99% of gay people were born that way, so who are we straight people to judge her anyway?

Hmm...where to start? Well, I think the first question would be a good one to start with.
Ellen's did quite well as this year's host, although I found it quite un-correct to show up with a hoover....she should have avoided that one, but for the rest she did great.
Secondly, I don't think that the Academy made a statement by choosing Gore's contribution, but honored the ex-vice-president's cinematographic contribution .
I don't really have an answer to the question if we are likely to see more films with the Environment as topic, because we cannot talk about more, if we haven't seen so many by now.

All in all I enjoyed the show and hope you did as well...
Have a nice day....

wow..ok lots of questions.
well seeing as i was there, i'm sure i can answer them all...
i'm not a big fan of ellen degeneres..but i have to admit she made me laugh a couple of times.
i'm so glad that The Departed won best pic. and best director. god knows marti deserved it! But just in general it was a really really great movie. Right after I saw it, i thought, wow that's one of the best films I've ever seen.
I'm also glad that an Inconvenient Truth won too. though i don't know what kind of effect it will have - most of the ppl that watch the oscars are already envirormentally informed already.

I didn't watch the Oscars this year. The only film nominated that I saw was Pirates of the Caribbean... it's been a low income year for me, and as much as I love movies and buttered popcorn, I just haven't gotten out to see them this past year. I half hoped that DiCaprio would finally get an Oscar... but this was the first time in many, many years I had not seen ANY (but one) of the nominated films.

So, I just helped the girls with their homework projects...

**EDIT** Oops.. about Degeneres... I DID catch the opening schpiel... I wasn't impressed. I like it much better when Billy Crystal emcees.
