How important is "family" in Filipino culture?

"Family" is a very broad term, that is why I did not elaborate on the questiom more- I want to know what other (mainly Filipino) peoples' perspectives and interpretations of the word is.

For most Pinoys (Filipinos), family is anyone related by blood (up to the nth degree) and by marriage (the entire family of one's spouse) and even, by affliliation (the entire family of one's inner circle of friends). It's so extended, both horizontally and vertically.
In the Filipino culture, the family is the basic unit of government, education and religion.
This characterization of family is not unique to Filipinos. Most Latino countries regard the family the same way. Definitely, the Filipinos' strong family ties is a lasting imprint of more than 3 decades of Spanish rule in the country.

Respect of brothers and sisters, from the eldest to the youngest. Love and affection, understanding, caring each member on the family or helping one another in many other ways and many others.

Family is important in the Filipino culture coz this is where their children are trained,taught & educate about the Filipino customs & traditions like :Respect for the Elders,Using "PO & OPO",PRAYING THE ANGELUS every 6:00 pm.AND being a law abiding citizen of their country...

My wife is Filipina and I feel that I can explain since I live in a house with three other families all in-laws. Most Filipinos put there families on top shelf and don't feel intimidated by bills carreers or anything there main focus is family and being together. I cannot in good faith speak for every Pinoy but I think that it's fair to say that for most it's Top shelf priority.
