You need to read a little more about these things. The $12 billion was not our money. It was Iraq's money. What happened was we converted some of the money from oil sales and Suddam's frozen assets and delivered it to Iraq to help stimulate the economy. Now, once it got in Iraq, somehow the money was stolen or looted or just it's dispersment was not properly documented. Now, American didn't loose $12 Billion of our own money, but the real problem is whos hands the money is in. Hopefully not the terrorists.

They attempted to buy the peace with tons of paper.
Chances are better than good that a lot of that money wound up being spent to buy weapons used to destroy the peace.
Just another example of the Neo Cons abysmally flawed policy in Iraq.
