Put BT biscuits in the water. They contain a bacteria that does not harm anything, but keeps mosquito eggs from hatching.

You could buy small fish that are natural predators of the mosquito larvae. And have the lakes and ponds fogged with mosquito insecticide, regularly. If your pond has a pump you could circulate the water which could probably kill the larvae (what I know is, mosquitos lay their eggs in clear still water).

If these water bodies retain the water year round consider buying goldfish.Most fish stores sell goldfish for about 10 cents a fish,sometimes cheaper when you buy hundreds.....its safe,effective and it improves the ecocycle of the water bodies......It will stop the mosquito larvae COLD!

If your pond have certain tall plants (such as cyperus) that can provide hiding places from predators, you can actually introduced drangonfly nymphs. They are quite effectiive bilogical control against mosquitoes. Alternatively, you can consider BT (Bacilicius thuringensis).

Grow a healthy number of frogs in them and their tadpoles will eat up the larvaeof the mosquitoes.You can also raise larvivorous fish in these water bodies with the same benefits.Growing frogs has the added advantage tht they control other flying pests also.

on the "not so safe side of the question" kerocene will do the trick, it doesn't take much. It spreads over the top of the water and dies the trick.
