We picked up a cat that had been hit on the side of the road just before thanksgiving. We brought her to the vet and found out she was going to live so we had her fixed and de-clawed. She was a barn cat so we gave her flea meds and now she some how has tapeworm. We also have two dogs. Do we need to get them wormed too?

Tapeworms come from an animal ingesting flea eggs - off from themselves or off from other animals (if the cat is a hunter). The only way the tapes could be transmitted to your dogs is if they are eating the cats poop (or if there are fleas in the environment and there's a chance they've ingested eggs). Tapes are not unusual - especially in barn cats. They can be easily treated with a pill from your vet.

It never hurts to worm a dog. Tapeworms come from swallowing a flea so you should give them all a good flea bath or medicine.
