Although sometimes the release date is the best indicator, I'm afraid a November release alone is not enough to secure an Oscar nomination. I thought Casino Royale was a masterful reboot of the Bond series, and was far and away superior to most of the Bond movies I've watched. However, Bond movies, while entertaining, have historically not contained Oscar worthy content, and I think that stigma was too much for even a quality movie like Casino Royale to shake.
But even on its own merits I don't know that it did quite enough for an Oscar nod, except in the category of best adapted screenplay, where it should have easily beat out Borat for a nomination. But the writing for Bond movies is just a little to over the top, it doesn't feel real, its the same thing that weighs Star Wars films down. Sure its often funny and witty, but it doesn't have that gritty realistic feel that most Oscar winners have. The next strong category for them would be the lead actor and actress awards, and while Craig and Green's performances were both good, these categories were flooded with good performances this year.

A national holiday release is no guarantee of nomination for anything, unless you're begging for someone to mention "turkey"--
Casino Royale's no turkey, but it's a popcorn movie---exciting, entertaining, but that's it.
The Oscars are awards given for excellence in the art of film production. Casino Royale didn't make the cut, pure and simple. Neither did hundreds of other movies.

I actually really liked this movie, however I'm not that surprised it didn't get any nominations. Big budget mostly action movies don't usually do that well in the oscars...plus most of the stunts are done by professionals so that makes it harder to award it to actors.
If it got any nominations I would haved liked to see Chris Cornell's "You Know My Name" get nominated, I thought it was an amazing theme song.

Because movie was absolute crap.....
A nomination is given to a movie if it has at least one positive and good point about it which in this case was none......
Bond as a blonde or vice versa was the darndest thing ever happened in a bond movie....
S**t man......
