i think that there should be a boycott where no one attends the game. hit them where it hurts. force their hand and make them do the right thing. the people of chicago need to stand as one and not settle for anything less. let's face it, the coach before lovie was a bum. he had many of the same pieces to the puzzle as there are now but did not know what strings to pull or how to pull them. this man has restored the winning tradition and you are hesitant to reward him? advertise to the masses and get the word out that there should be a boycott. support your coach.

Hey they started a picket line outside the Detriot Lions offices to get Steve Mariucci out of there year before last. I say get a bunch of buddies together, make some huge tacky signs, grab a few cases of beer and have a field day.

It's sad that Lovie is the lowest paid coach in the NFL. And even worse that the Bears are at a stalemate with him. Seriously, the guy comes in and takes them to a Super Bowl. If anybody actually deserves a raise that guy does.

They’re probably waiting to see if he gets any other offers before they make him an offer.
They got him for a steal and if possible, want to keep him for a steal.
This question kinda relates to salary cap issue. You may want to respond to this question: Are you for or against the salary cap?

You have players you want to keep that help the team win and keep the seats filled and so many think that coaching doesn’t have that much to do with the player performance.
Maybe the Chicago owners and GM are of that ilk and think it more prudent to pay the player more instead of the coach(es).

edit:
I got caught up im my opinion and forgot to answer the question.
The fans could try signing petitions; picket the stadium and the team office(s); call in to radio/TV stations; etc

Is it really? I think the bears have gotten to where they are despite Lovie. But I do hope they keep coach Smith, this would ensure losingmore big games in the future.

It certainly should not be a no-brainer, unless your GM is taking lessons from the book of Matt Millen and wanting to make the fans miserable.

There's an ancient technique that you can use - it's called "writing a letter" and involves the use of a pen, ink and writing paper. Such missives are generally delivered, for a small fee, by a slow but long-standing agency of the U.S. government known as "The Postal Service." It's primitive, but effective. ;-)
