helping a group build a church

Mom, Dad, I am considering three options for how to spend the year after I graduate:

1) I could become a mercenary.
2) Conduct extensive personal research into the nature of debauchery. or
3) Go on a mission trip.

Option #1 would be largely financed by by wages as a soldier of fortune and, should I survive, I might even bring home a tidy nest egg.

Option #2 would be financed through entrepreneurial activities which might be suggested by the vices that I am exploring.

Option #3 would require some financial help.

What do you think that I should do?

Letter Requesting Financial Support

The most effective letter is one which recognizes that, by
assisting financially, the donor becomes an actual participant
in the mission endeavor.

I would start with those who you are personally acquainted with
at church and elsewhere, who are aware of your interest in
missions, and are supportive of your intentions. Then, I would
expand out to those more distantly acquainted with you..old
friends and their children, relatives, etc.

Always be sure and fully explain the mission trip, what you plan
to do, how God is working in the matter, and how the funds you
receive will be used.

Make each letter personal....you know how much mail people
receive from "unknowns" wanting money.

Best of everything in the future.

Attempting to appeal mainly to a similar sect of people from your religious group is probably the easiest, however it can be risky as well. Your letter will probably be the most heartfelt and ring the most true with people from a similar faith, however it will completely alienate many other people.

Writing a letter that will focus on the main mission of humanity (such as work in poor countries, increasing education and health) will earn you more money from a much wider base. However, it truly depends on what you are planning to do on your mission.

Not sure after reading the question if we are thinking of the same thing... so if this makes no sense at all I apologize!

You can mention in your letter how God has called you or this group to go on the trip. Then mention what you and the group will be doing and how long you will be there. You can mention the cost of the trip and ask that if they feel led that they can contribute by making the check out to either your church with mission trip written on the memo line.

I reckon that the answers you have recieved fail in one big way and that is they fial to recognise that no one wants a letter asking for money, so the solution to the problem is to not ask for money in the first place, most people who give money for a worthwhile cause do so to make themselves feel good and in fact some feelings of self guilt (there but for the love of god go I for instance) so use this to get your point across a pre-arranged face to face meeting, you will get the money if your (1) establish how awful or tragic the circumstances are and (2) how much benefit they can make in these peoples lives.
These generous souls also want to feel the involvment of their money so make sure you use this to.
Send the letters to what you consider the most worthwhile people (suckers) and then tell them you wish to have a very short meeting with them about an important issue that they need to know about or the problem may get out of hand (curiosity killed the cat letter).
GOOD LUCK
i am a sales person and do not kid yourself this is a sales job that you are about to undertake.

The best way is to lay out in details purpose of the trip and how it can benefit the mission of financial assistance.

I am writing this letter to my friends and family. I am asking you to do me a personal favor by supporting a [non-profit organization / personal mission] for work I deeply believe and which I think is highly worthy ___________________[MISSION TO MARS, ETC.] The mission [of this organization] is to bring about _________________________ for the _________________ community, i.e.; persons who need shelter, food, clothing. I have enclosed a copy of a Newsletter. If you will take a few moments to read it, I believe it will tell you all you will want to know about this organization / mission.

THANK YOU FOR DOING THIS GOOD WORK WITH ME!!!

Depends on what kind of mission.

I am planning on taking one to Las Vegas myself sometimes in the near future.
Lots of poor forlorn souls there, I have heard.
