Good question! I think you need a little of both. Just enough difference to make it interesting and enough of the same interests to share things.

Yes I do think opposites attract and yes I do believe it is better to be with someone with the same interests as you do.

Opposites in personality attract - however there have to be a significant number of similarities if things are going to work long term.

Morals have to be almost dead on identical if the relationship is going to last long term.

I'm 28 and have been with my wife for 7 years. And we both know that although we are different in ways - we are the same in others (the important ones)

Mountain Man and I often tease each other that we should have given a test to each other before we married...
We have many of the same likes and dislikes and most often get along...

However there are times that he likes something I cannot stand in any way, shape, or form, and the same goes for me...
Sometimes it's food, sometimes it's music or movies or actors or actresses...
But the majority of time we are fine...

It just gets irritating when we disagree on something to watch on TV or renting a movie or eating dinner...
It is funny and sad...

So I would say that we are both half and half or 50/50 on opposites attracting and also being alike...

a little of both, on some things its nice to have the same interests, but in other parts, opposites do attract. Although i dont think you can be with someone who has completly differnt opposite opinions on major things, like marriage kids, housing. but on smaller things like dislikes of foods, and actities, then its good to have your own interests and hobbies

Has anybody noticed that some rude person went through here and gave thumbs down to all the answers???

For crying out loud, it's a poll...
There are no real right or wrong answers...
You simply pick the best of all when you choose...
No one here is wrong...

I wish Yahoo would get rid of thumbs down or up on the general answers and just leave it to the best answers so we can score points...
Some people just don't like anything and there is no pleasing them...
It is hateful too...

opposites do attract
my bf is very outgoing, aggressive, and talks alot
i am very shy, withdrawn, passive, and likes to listen
this is why we mesh well together...we are different
different brings interest into the relationship
i mean if we were talked alot....who the hell would listen to who. we would both talk over each other....both want the spotlight.
it is good to have similar interests...regarding certain issues...but for the most part having someone that is very different from you brings excitement and interest.
dating someone that is just like me is boring. i would never date a quiet, submissive type guy. i mean that would be so boring!!! the fact that we are so different brings about a balance...that is hard to put into words. we complete each other.

in my opinion people are attracted at first but if you don't have the same things in common it will lead to arguing or having nothing to talk about if you like totally opposite things. but at the same time 2 people that are aggressive, talk a lot, always have to win, etc would probably not go well together since they wouldnt agree on anything so I guess it depends on the qualities

I think that you need a mixture of both. You need to have SOME things in common with one another so that you can enjoy doing things together. If you have absolutely no interests that are the same, you will never find something you both enjoy doing. However, when people are too much alike Ive noticed they tend to fight more. Its good to be your own person.

I think having some similar interests helps. I would like to learn new things as well. It keeps thing interesting.

The key is that there is a mutual physical attraction.
