I've always wondered if Ouija boards would be something interested to try out. I remember attempting to use one eons ago, but my friends toying with it, and it didn't work. What have been your experiences with it? Is it really as harmful as some say?

Best to leave them alone. They definitely are not toys. I know for a fact that they do work. Years ago a friend and I used one, the planchette moved on it's own, and spelled out names of people we knew and some we didn't know. I remember asking the name of the person I would marry, and it spelled out "George". I didn't end up marrying a George, and I've never known a George. Anyway, from what I've read, it attracts all the "weirdos" of the spirit world. I believe it, from the strange answers we got from it that night. I really don't want to try one again. Even the famous psychic and author Sylvia Browne says to leave them alone, that they attract negativity.

An extension of one of my previous answers.

The term "Ouija" is derived from the French "oui" (English: "yes") and the German/Dutch "ja" (also English: "yes"). An alternative ouija story suggests the name ouija was revealed to inventor Charles Kennard during a ouija séance and was claimed to be an Ancient Egyptian word meaning "good luck", although this is ouija theory known to be incorrect. Ouija It has also been suggested the word ouija was inspired by the name of the Moroccan city Oujda.

The ouija board is an instrument which can be used to contact or channel spirits of the deceased. A modern day ouija board is usually a wooden or cardboard device. The ouija board is inscribed with the alphabet, the words 'yes', 'no', 'hello', 'goodbye' and the numbers 0 to 9. With the ouija board there is usually a slideable ouija piece of apparatus on rotating castors or wheels with an ouija pointer. The ouija operators of the ouija board lightly place their fingers on the slideable ouija device and wait for it to move. When the ouija pointer comes into contact with, or moves over one of the letters, numbers or words printed on the ouija board, a record of this ouija message is kept and later used to see if an intelligible message can be obtained.

Like anything else in life, it can be safe or dangerous, this has direct bearing on the person using the board. There is nothing inherently evil about this, that is just other peoples insecurities being reflected. And it is not a tool of the devil as many may have you believe.

Yes they work, I have a few. I found a few online that are very old (one of the first Ouija boards that came out) and the people selling them said they were haunted so I bought them, well nothing, really fun happend. So I got one from Toys R Us and boy did it work. Our house that we lived in at the time was very haunted though, so the ghosts and whatnot loved to mess around with us. But yes as long as you believe that they work and you dont have people making it move, then they work.

I've never used one personally but I have sold many at work.

I have never once heard any good experiences with them. My sister however had a very bad experience after just one use. A friend of hers was possessed by an entity while using it. When they put it away for the night, my sister was tormented by something in her bed. As soon as she put it in a cabinet, things went back to normal and she got rid of it asap. Even as a Pagan, she will not go near one to this day.

many years ago I had a weird experience with it and it unnerved me so much that I haven't touched one since. The supposed answer was very cryptic and the other person did not know of the situation that was referred to in the question but, the answer was right on the money. I still get the creeps thinking about it.

I think flowerchild makes a good point when she suggests that Ouija boards probably have a tendency in ways of attracting "weirdo's" from the spirit world. Spirits are probably like people in the sense that some are good for you and some are not. I try to avoid unhealthy types.

Have not used one myself but I really can see no harm in it just a lot of fun and not to be taken seriously. My mother told me of her experiences as a teenager . Her friends asked the board to name her future husband and it came out with Klo her friends then broke down with laughter as the polish word for toilet is Kloset so I suspect it was rigged by her friends having a go at her however years later she did marry a Klo...... my father so I think you have to take it with a pinch of salt i.e. for fun not seriously as truth is sometimes stranger than fiction so go have fun and don't be so serious.........trust me and I offer you my protection if it makes you feel safer
