In the less-than-stellar NFC, anything is possible, especially with the improvements the 49ers have made!

Unfortunately for 49ers fans, no. Though the 49ers appear to be on the rise, there still are lots of holes to fill and personnel changes to be made on defense. The offense could use another playmaker who can prevent defenses from focusing on RB Frank Gore and TE Vernon Davis. QB Alex Smith needs to become more consistent. Give them some time, better days are just around the corner for this team.

No. They lost Norv Turner who is a strong offensive coordinator. The defensive unit has isolated talent, but is far from being adequate. Smith and Gore form a great look for the future, and will continue to improve; Smith especially.

The Seahawks will be the favorite to win the NFC West again this year. They didn't play close to what they were capable of, and will not be losing and key players to free agency. This will bring back a solid roster looking to overcome injuries from last season.

I wouldn't think the wild-card will come out of the NFC West, as the stronger division is the East. Just speculating, but I would look at the Cowboys to take the wild-card behind the Eagles.

I think they can.I wouldn't bet on it but in many ways, they are similar to the Packers. Both shocked everyone last year by outstandings preformences(from what others expected)and both nearly making the playoffs. The 49ers have a young team and if Alex Smith can start clicking this year they will have no trouble making the playoffs. My final prediction:9-7 6th playoff seed

take it from a 9ers fan who keeps up with every move the team makes. they have a good shot at it. they play in a weak division and they swept the seahawks last year and should have swept the rams but they got a last second score. the 9ers will only improve why? 1st- they have the most cap space which means they can sign guys like adalius thomas (nolan was ravens DC) and nate clements and donte stallworth(from sacramento)
2nd- they have around 8 draft picks in the first 4 rounds.
3rd- front office made smart decisions. we traded lloyd, barlow, peterson, and carter. the result? we saved tons of money, lloyd sucks in washington, carter sucks in washington, barlow got cut by the jets, and peterson is the only thats doing good but for 59million is he worth it?
losing norv turner hurts, but its not the end of the world. our OC know norvs turners system. so dont be surprised when our new OC is from within the organization. gore, vernon, and alex will all improve.
future looks good for the 9ers. i say they go at least 8-8.

I didn't pay them much mind last year thinking that Norv Turner would be there this year and possibly getting them to playoffs ’07-‘08 season.
St Loo is through.
So depending on coaching change(s) and what happens between St Loo and Seattle plus off-season acquisitions, a big MAYBE. It’s the NFC; remember?
I forgot about Alex Smith when I asked this question: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ah9AL5yfBDTlxP1MGsPq7lPsy6IX?qid=20070226035110AA64vRA
He’s gonna be a big factor too with what happens with San Francisco.

They have a good chance in my mind. They play in a weak division and conference. They have definable holes they need to address this offseason (they need a pass rush, better cornerbacks, and a WR), but at least they have a plan.

I do have a concern drafting a WR in the first round. Typically WR's take longer to develop than every position except QB. Drafting Ted Ginn Jr in the first round will not guarantee stardom in his rookie season.

If you look at other teams like the Browns and Raiders who need help everywhere... It's much harder to project them in the playoffs.

with just marginal improvement from last year they stand to go 8-8 or 9-7 and perhaps a spot in the post season...remember they play in a rather weak division...that they lost an experienced offensive coordinator is unfortunate but in todays atmosphere it happens often...

Yes, as long as they get defence/wr from the draft and free agency. If they sign Adalius Thomas and Nate Clemens and draft a WR like tedd gin jr or someone like that, they will be a team to be reckoned with

No. The loss of norv turner was HUGE, especially in the development of QB Alex Smith.
