Like The Departed... I really don't think remakes should get nominated for Best Movie...
Infernal Affairs was already a damn good movie already... and to remake and get a Best Movie Award... is whack

Each and every movie should stand on it's own merit, regardless of the source material. I haven't seen Infernal Affairs so I can't really compare the two, but there is nothing wrong with both movies being great and being recognized. I think your question would only be valid if the original and the remake were competing against one another, but even then you have to go by how well each movie tells the story.

Thats a good question and you make a good point but I believe what getting awarded is not the remake but the new actors and their superb acting and just the new aspects that make the film still able to live on today

I think your guideline is arbitrary. Practically every idea for a movie has already been done in some form...and 95% of all movies that come out are just rehashed movie plots from something before.
Hey if it's good, it's good.

Sure, why not? It doesn't mean the original wasn't good. It just means that out of all the movies made this award year, THIS movie was the best of the bunch. It doesn't mean this movie was up against its original predecessors.

Hollywood should stop making remakes for awhile. Especially if the first one was good. Pretty soon we will have a remake of Matrix !! :D lol....

i was thinking that. i wonder how many people knew befofre tonight that it was a remake. i have infernal affairs on my netflix queue. can't wait to see it.
