Enough with the Jesus Christ answers already. He sacrificed himself for the sins of humanity, not to save the lives of anybody. If the world was about to be obliterated by some cosmic force and the only way to stop it would have been by Jesus getting crucified, then it would make sense in response to the question given. However, it does not. Sins are not the same thing as flesh and blood. But this is not the time for a religious debacle to go down, I'm just saying to stay on topic and read the question more carefully.

As for my favorite movie heroes, it would either have to be Boromir from Lord of the Rings or Kurt Russell in Poseidon. Both were very touching and heroic. If you want a "religious themed" hero, then my pick would have to be Aslan from The Chronicles of Narnia giving his own life to save that of Edmund (which I still think he should have been impaled on a spear anyway....but that's just me). Yes, I know, Aslan was resurrected a la Jesus Christ and the stone table, but that's as close to it as you can get.

Hey guys,

that hero definition is a bit strict. What about those who'd be willing to die, but don't. Nelson Mandela is my life hero, and he was more than willing to die, as his famous speech said...but the fact that he didn't doesn't make him less of a hero

this site http://toptentubes.com/toptenmovieheroes shows clips of the ten best heroes according to the AFI (american film institute).

I agree with their number one Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird...he would have died for it, but he didn't have to because of Scout.
