Why is it that in modern society people plan their day around the television? Favorite TV show on at 6 so have to get out of work early to get home in time.

Also, is there a way to help the world back into a society where people spend more time with eachother than with the tele.

you know, i wonder the same thing. i am a sucker for American Idol and The Office.

i think that the trend towards reality tv shows that people -want- to connect with others, because they become a bit emotinally attached to the contenders on Survivor or Amazing Race...it becomes somewhat like having an appointment with a friend.

perhaps the reason for this is because we have so many "instant" things that we want "instant" relationships too. when we follow American Idol, for instance, we instantly have new "friends" and we know more about them than if we went out and tried to make a friend in the real world.

we're all just looking for each other anyway!

(maybe that's why yahoo answers is so much fun, because it is people talking to people again)

great question!

have a fantastic day!

People plan around tv because they don't yet have TiVo. I agree we need to spend more time with face to face contact, but I don't know how we should go about fixing the problem.
