Melissa Etheridge was making an acceptance speech for winning an Oscar for her song that was featured in the documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" when all of a sudden, the broadcast was interrupted and a clip of "Little Miss Sunshine" was inserted.

Ethridge speech just got to where she was saying she wished to thank her "wife" when it was interrupted. As a straight man and a father of two, I was feeling uncomfortable to hear a woman say something about her "wife" too but I wouldn't have just cut her off for that.

Do you think the interruption really happened or was my TiVo just playing tricks on me? Also was the interruption, if it was deliberate, an attempt to sensor her "gay talk"?

I wasn't watching at that moment but personally I have no problems with Melissa at all. I also highly doubt the Oscars would be censored like that on purpose because it would cause quite an uproar and Hollywood is quite liberal in general.

It would be kind of an odd thing to do...I mean the host is openly gay and they showed her kissing her wife just before walking onto the stage.

I've not seen the program on television but I do believe the speech was indeed censored. I too always refer to my life partner as being my 'wife' and even living in a more liberal country like Belgium brings out many reactions on that.

It should have been censored. I felt violated that this could happen on TV. Gays have the right to be with whomever, but this is America and marriage is still between a man and a woman. Melissa's speech was not cut short. She said what she wanted to say. My question is this, if she was thanking her wife, does that make her the husband? No matter how much they dress like men (Ellen D. included) they can't pull it off. I look at them and see women.

OKAY IM SORRY BUT I DONT KNOW WHY EVERYONE IS MAKING A BIG DEAL ABOUT THIS SHE IS GAY OMG SHE HAS BEEN THIS WAY FOR MANY YEARS. ITS NOTHING NEW. I DONT SEE THE BIG DEAL ABOUT SOMEONE SAYING I LOVE YOU TO THEIR SPOUSE ITS PRETTY COMMON. WHATS THE DIFFERENCE FROM YOU TELLING YOUR DAD YOU LOVE HIM. HE IS A MAN. IS HE NOT. AND YOU ARE TO. YOUR TWO CHILDREN WILL SEE AND HEAR A LOT WORSE THAN A WOMAN TELLING HER WIFE THAT SHE LOVES HER.

Excuse me!? When I tell my dad I love him, it doesn't mean I want to MAKE love to him. Are you kidding me? If you don't know the difference between incest and being gay, you need to do some research hon.

And by the way, this whole gay marriage thing is BS. I'm sorry. I'd like to claim my dog as a dependent on my taxes because I love him, feed him and give him shelter, but the IRS won't allow me to do it. But if I 'married' some flamer, well that's just fine...total crap.

It is you tive because I did not feel it was interrupted at all. I like her and am glad she won. She deserved it.
