I would say Belliard has a pretty good chance. With Vidro gone to Seattle they have an opening in the middle infield. He would seem like a lock to make it and possibly start with Lopez going back to SS for a possibly injured/ineffective Guzman. Young would seem like more of a long shot since DH is probably his best defensive position at this point. Beyond that the Nationals have 4 or 5 guys competing with Young to fill in for Nick Johnson so unless the go with an extra bench player I think he'll start out in AAA. The only way I see him sticking is if the Nationals think he can still patrol the OF like he did as a younger player. That is a huge if though...

Basically the Nationals know they are going to be batting Austin Kearns and Ryan Zimmerman somewhere between 3 and 5 and that's all they know. That being said Manny Acta worked under Willie Randolph and knows to look for two things in players: 1) Character and 2) Versatility. Belliard can barely play one position and is not known as a great clubhouse guy, even with holes in the infield I would be surprised if he makes the roster. Young used to be extremely versatile, but he has been a DH most of the time lately. Also his character issues got him fired in Detroit. Don't look for t-shirts with either of these guys' names this spring. Especially with the young, Larry Broadway, and the better character vets, Travis Lee, already in camp.

Of course. dmitri is no Albert Pujols or anything, but he is still a decent baseball player. And Belliard hit decent (272 AVG. and 13 HRs.) Average, but playable.

They should. Dont know much about Belliard, but I do know Dmitri Young is a gamer and loves to give his best all the time.
Plus Young is a switch hitter, which makes him that much more dangerous.

don't know what, if any, personal issues Belliard has, but i know Young's got him fired offa the Tigers last season. he don't wanna admit it, and the (Tigers) organization has nothing bad to say about him now. i hope they both make the Nationals.
